I may benefit from this section. Here's the deal, I hate shaving. It's a major pain in my ass. So much so that I have pretty much stopped doing it unless I have to. I guess I have some real girly skin cause everytime I shave the razorburn is horrendous and I get ingrown hairs like a mofo. I started using the crappy bic razors and then switched to electric. The electric seems to rip the hair out so I threw that fucker out quick. I now use the Mach3's and they still fuck my shit up. I've tried alot of different creams and gels but always end up with the same result. The best shave I get is if I shave after a really hot shower and even then it still sucks.....Anyways, I'm open to opinions. _________________

Sweet my first victim,... err.. I mean visitor
That is exactly why I started this. I had razor burn after every shave and atleast a couple ingrown hairs. I would only shave 2x a week due to the pain of shaving.
The mach 3's really made this worse because you are dragging 3 dull blades over your face every time you make a pass. I use a DE Safety Razor that has one single very sharp blade
http://www.amazon.com/Merkur-Long-Handled-Safety-Razor/dp/B000NL0T1G/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1230689790&sr=1-3
The blades range between 0.15 - 0.55 cents each depending on brand. This razor will work with any brand of blades so you can see what blades work best for you.
The biggest thing is prep, a good soap/cream whipped with a badger brush will give you a much slicker foam to help stop cuts and burn. The thicker foam also helps hold up the whiskers making it where no pressure on the razor is needed.
Wet Shaving uses multiple passes rather than one quick harsh pass to shave. You take longer but believe it or not it becomes a rather enjoyable experience.
you lather up and do one pass with the grain using no pressure. rinse and lather again then make the next pass at a 45* angle with the grain, last pass 45* angle again in the opposite direction.
This will leave you with a pretty damn good shave, as you skin adapts to wet shaving you will be able to consider against the grain pass. This is the basic concept, you can get started for about $50 with some damn fine equipment.
Good news is from there maintaining your supplies will cost maybe 5 bucks a month.
This explains it much better, let me know what you think.
Dont expect success the very first shave, but after the 4-5 time you will have much better results then you ever had with the shitty disposable razors

Oh and another thing do NOT take the term safety razor as gospel these things will slice your shit up quick if you move them side to side, travel straight lines only |

So true, they make the Mach3 seem very dull. You will not even feel pain as these things slide through your skin, surgical sharp. _________________ If it weren't for the gutter, my mind would be homeless.

I gotta tell ya, watching all the brushing and massaging and mixing strikes me as well, kinda, sorta, GAY. Spray the shit on your face scrape it off and be done with it already. But then I'm just an old turd. What do I know. |

If you have an HEB they offer a boar hair brush for $5 and a pinkish soap puck for 2 bucks. Both are the name brand Van Der Hagen.
You will not have any luck finding a DE razor in such a store, your only hope is if you have a shave shop in your area. They are overpriced anyways though. So order just the DE razor and 10 blades or so for under 30 bucks then get that other stuff at HEB. _________________ If it weren't for the gutter, my mind would be homeless.

Trust me I know what your saying. After you do it a couple times though it becomes a very relaxing part of your day. Shaving goes from a chore to a experience.
Something kinda fucked up...
One of the guys on my shaving forum started wet shaving because his dad shaved his face right before he blew his brains out. Got the guy to thinking, WTF would my dad shave before he killed himself? Must have really enjoyed shaving, so he tried it and liked it.
Damn whats even more fucked up is that I laugh while writing this _________________ If it weren't for the gutter, my mind would be homeless.
