If it were legal it would free up a lot of police resources, and jail space. I think they should decriminalize cannabis and put a rediculous heavy sentence on meth use/possesion. |

Hemp could be put into heavy production for rope, clothing, paper, oils, soaps, and other misc items if cannabis were legal. There is already hemp soap, shampoo, lotions, cereal, and rope out there, but it is not widely marketed. |

my only reason not to legalize it is that instant testing for inebriation levels to judge cause for DUI are not available if there was a one shot breathalyzer type test to judge how impaired a person is for things like work related incidents and DUI accidents I would be totally on board for legalizing it, until then im sorry but my vote is no. not that I hold to be "holier than tho" far from it If you wanna toke go for it but Im totally against driving under the influence of anything pot included. |

I understand your view, but maybe with a gradual decriminalization and taxation of it they could fund a program to develop a testing device. After the device is developed and put into production, the taxes would = positive revenue for counties and states. I do completely agree 100% that they should develop a way to test the degree of "stonedness" at the time given. Although it would be hard to put a certain # or % value because of the different strains, and contents of the strains. Some strains contain CBC and CBN, some don't. CBC and CBN are being tested right now to find out the type of effect it gives. Such as euphoria, tingling sensations, hunger etc. It is known that THC is not the only active ingredient in cannabis, but the most common and well known. Also people can develop tolerance to cannabis just like alcohol. It would probably have to come down to some sort of field sobriety test? It would be a hard bird to tackle, but it can be done. |

Legal: medical use ? This list goes on and on. The reason behind it being illegal would be a far less, and much shorter list to put down.
1.) These anti drug laws stem from anceient and barbaraic religion based laws. We, as a nation, are based and founded very heavily around religion, no matter how many times you repeat church and state must be seperate, the sad truth is, they are not. Many anti gambling laws, anti drug laws, and so on stem from a deep religous faith. This, I feel, is that hardest hurdle to overcome. People will tell you its horrible stuff, and say it kills you, but have no experience or facts to back it up. Its the old "Reefer Madness" theory still hanging around today.
2.) Nylon. We wouldn't even have that word, if it weren't for the criminilization of marijuana. When the plant was first made illegal, there was a small Hemp/nylon war taking place. Nylon was made as an alternative, and advertised as "stronger" material. They soon realized it was far more expensive to make, and couldn't compete with hemp production. The owner of Nylon, was a very influential person, and he had many friends in congress. Soon, rumors were started about this "mad drug" that would cause people to go crazy. they said, if a black male smoked it, his sexual urges would become so great, they wouldn't be able to stop him from raping fragile little white girls. People who smoked pot, slowly lost there mind. Responsibility was tossed to the side, and even the act of murder seemed to be nothing, while under the influence of marijuana. There was a lot of fear surrounding the initial prohibition of ganja.
So, in a nut shell, that is WHY it is illegal. Why should it become legal ? Think of the mental benefits felt immediately across the board. Its a de-stressing agent, helping you "feel better". Less stress = better mood. Life's enjoyment would gradually climb. Drinking would go down. I know I don't have as strong an urge to drink and get hammered when I am stoned. I can usually sit around and smoke, and barely drink, if I drink at all. People tend to turn to some sort of "self medication" to "unwind" at the end of a long day. Taking out the super harmful drug, alcohol, and replacing it with the tame Marijuana, you'd be saving lives, pro-longing lives, and the benefits would be tremendous. Alcohol is a very potent poison, and can in fact KILL YOU, where as marijuana has exactly 0 overdose deaths in its looooong history.
Think of the crimes we could cut down ? You ever think how many people are shot over a bad pot deal ? Burglary, theft, vandolism, arson, all in relationship with pot, and its growing and distribution efforts. With it being illegal, if someone comes into my house, and steals my plants, I can't got ot he police and cry. Therefore I am forced to seek justice on my own accord. I was lock and load, and go looking for some skulls to smash. Think about the large, LARGE deals gone bad. Being in a room with nothing but theives and criminals, and having to truth them with thousands if not millions of dollars, and dollars worth of pot. These situations can really excalate, and lead to large shootings. Not only are "bad guys" hit, but think of the innocent neighbors who get caught up in the BS. With MJ legalized, the gangs and drug rings surrounding and basing their operation around pot, would be no more. They could no longer compete with the market. Sure, they may move onto other drugs, but it WOULD eliminate a percentage of these gangs and "problem makers".
Think about the jail space it would free up. instantly millions of people would be released from jail, all NON-violent drug offenders. People who are serving 7-10 years for SIMPLE POSSESION. Think about the poor guy sitting in jail for one lousy doobie !! Think about the highschool kid, who coulda become something, was busted for smoking a bowl, on his walk home. He then gets thrown into jail, which is basically a criminal college of sorts. He then comes out with a different out look on life, new knowledge, and a willingness to become a life long criminal.
The benefits of hemp are far too numerous and long to go into. This is simply the very tippy top of the iceburg. I can rant for days about this, as I have had some practice ! ha ha
As for the breathelyzer test, or BAC. You have a point, but I don't agree (surprise). There would be a zero tolerance policy. If you are stoned while driving, your facing posible DUI (just like how it is out here in CA). They perform sobriety tests. if you can't pass those, you are "under arrest". You then would have to be subject to a hair sample. A hair sample can tell when the last time the suspect smoked, and the amount. After this, you can punish as deemed fit. It would be a better system then our drunk dirving laws already in place, if you ask me. Right now, as the law stands, I could be faaaaaar to drunk to be driving, but blow a .07 and still be legal. I know thats a stretch, but it has been shown, some people are far too impaired to be driving, at only a .08 BAC.
So, my question is, how can you allow one drug that has been shown to kill over and over again (tobacco and booze) to remain legal ? Where a drug with medical benefits, monetary benefits, and basically benefits across the board remain illegal ?
"Politicians and tycoons its time for your Brandy, suckin down your poison like your devil's candy ! You condemming all our pleasures as your drinking from your booze ! Alcohol isn't a drug, haven't you heard the news ??? Drunk driving johnny killed a family of nine, where pot smoking Franky was driving just fine ! Hyprocrites !!! Seperate your rich from the wine !!
