well my pusher called and my frame should be in on the 8th so I am starting the build thread some of you couldnt give a shit less but I am going to share some of my secrets with you all on how to build a quality gun.
first thing is a basic tool list,
hollow ground screwdrivers
brass hammer(s) 12-20 oz I suggest a 12, 16, and a 20
drifts, preferably a large collection
needle files all shapes all sizes
valve lapping, polishing paste
sandpaper many different grits
brass block 1inx1inx4in
and a dremmel (NOT BATTERY OPERATED) with every bit you can afford
well thats a basic list and on the dremmel I prefer air power I got one from harbor freight for 14$ it is a lot easier to control and it has a bit more torque than the electric one and it doesnt overheat
now the tools can become quite a bit more but I do not suggest buying most of them unless you are going to build more than one things like sight pushers, lug cutters, grip safety jigs, etc these tools are if you are going to do a full custom, not what I would recommend for your first and most items like trigger sets are available already matched and as a drop in from Clark, Wilson, Brown, etc and also grip safety are avail as drop in to a mil spec frame
well thats all for now next time I will explain what the lapping compound is for |

Have you seen the movie wanted? what gun does anglia have is that a .45 or a Deagle? either way it has some sweet ingraving on the side of the gun. i always loved ingraving on the sides of guns looks so cool. |

Do you mean "engraving"?
By the way, "Deagles" suck. |

ok so my pusher still didnt get my frame but he had a better quality frame and he cut me a break on it
this is a Caspian 1911 frame it is nice and I wont have to do quite as much hard fitting as thir tolerances are a lot more stringent than some other makers linky
the website price is 182+ shipping+tax+transfer is usually comes to almost 300$ if you can find a dealer who isn't trying to send his kids to college with every sale he gave it to me for 200$ out the door
spring set bought on ebay
the three long ones are the recoil springs I thought I was only getting one but they sent me three so I guess I have spares
this is a fitting magazine bought just to do fitting and testing with I always use a G.I spec mag for the initial fitting just to be safe as some aftermarket mags are a little off
these, are all the lil pieces parts except for,
the trigger, sear, hammer, barrel bushing, and the firing pin these and the barrel are the only parts I have left to get and then I will be starting to fit it

ok here we go this is the frame and slide fit with no work done
from here we use the sharpie to "paint the rails"
after the rails are painted push the slide on until it wont go any further remove the slide and where the paint is scraped off these are your high spots
now I have a special file it has blank areas so you can just file the inside or the top and bottom and it is straight edged as to cut true
ok now if you want a very tight fit I only use the file until the slide matches up with the back of the frame then I break out the lapping compound the one I use is Bore lapping compound from brownells it was pretty damm expensive but I have used it for about 15 guns or so and the jar is only half empty
any way apply the compound to the rails lightly start working the slide back and forth I use a 3lb dead blow hammer to push it back and forth past hand tight it takes about 2.5 hours of constant work (depending how tight it is) to get it all the way back
here is a pic of the slide properly back all the way
and showing where it is going to line up when all the way back
when it is fit properly the slide should have very minimal side to side play and no up and down play when the slide is in battery position (lined up in the firing position)
enjoy I may fit the plunger tube next (PITFA) but it needs to be done _________________ “The police cannot protect the citizen at this stage of our development, and they cannot even protect themselves in many cases. well kinda its hard to explain If I bought one that had all the specific pieces that I want done to it like the compensated barrel beavertail grip safety etc it would prolly cost me close to 1100$ this build is costing me about $600 but add in about 40- 50 hours of labor and it is not really costing me less
what I am getting out of it is a match grade pin gun and the satisfaction of doing it myself _________________ “The police cannot protect the citizen at this stage of our development, and they cannot even protect themselves in many cases.
