Well guys I must admit, it was the closest shave of my life!....

....Because it took off half my face! Shocked

I really need to remember NO PRESSURE, let the weight of the razor be the only pressure.

That said the whole process was almost therapeutic.

I am going to give my face a break till Monday and try again.

I actually do plan on working up to a straight razor, just thought the saftey razor would be a better starting point Shocked

That was part of my motivation, blade cost is insane!

For this safety razor you can get 10 very high quality blades for $4.99

Also they are dual edge so as long as you flip the razor every so often you can go slightly longer. From what I am reading 5-8 days is the average life of the blade. So doing the math quickly I figure the blade cost for a year to be around $25 bucks.

I was going through the fusion blades once a week, sadly they did not even feel sharp out of the box. 4 blades were going for $17 bucks or so.
About $200 in a year just for the blades.

Just give up the razor and grow yourself a full beard, that is, if you can. Laughing

Laughing

Ok not that anyone gives a fuck but here is the latest

Razor burn has plagued me and I have been having a hard time getting the lather just right. Ditched my soap and got a better soap and things improved greatly this morning!

No irritation, no cuts or ingrowns. Still gathering the balls to go against the grain, maybe Friday of the rest of the week goes well.

Turns out you need to spend 2-3 minutes "building" the lather and not just whip it around till it starts to foam. It needs the consistency of coolwhip to really be effective.

Ok update, not that you homos care

The Parker razor I got first had sloppy manufacturing tolerances. 1 side of the razor would shave close the other side not so much.

Made some changes...

Picked up a Merkur 23c
http://westcoastshaving.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=8&products_id=28

Tolerances are much tighter, no aggressive side. The blade gap is also smaller making the razor more forgiving overall. A nice, well made German razor what will last a lifetime.

Picked up an electric water heater to get the towels nice and hot, this really help open the pores and reduces cuts & irritation.

Using Derby blades and they are more than sharp enough to do the job with with no irritation. They last almost a week and at 0.20 cents a piece are cheap!

Proraso shaving cream lathers quickly and has a fresh menthol smell

I do what is known as wet shaving, it involves 3 passes with a little cleanup. I am getting shaves so smooth it is as if I never had hair - sweet!

I am sticking with the classic Aqua Velva Blue Ice after shave and use a Nivea aftershave balm after to keep my skin in decent shape.

So far it is a relaxing start to the day, better than the painful chore it once was. My skin feels & looks better. The initial investment has set me back about $110 for everything, in less than a year though I will make up for it because the cartridge razors were so expensive.

Laughing Right after you try it first and live to post about it.

Seriously though I will try it on my face sometime after I get it, no way I will try the neck for a while though. It still has me a bit concerned, hell I am too chicken to even use the feather blades on the DE!

ok here is the run down

the new razor sucks ass the blade does NOT sit flat in the handle so that is out

#3 I do believe the main ingredients in old spice are battery acid and kerosene Shocked

Sucks about the new DE, then again the blades alone were worth the money.

Did you try the blades in the old DE you have or just in the new one that sucks?

I wonder how they would shave in the old one.

Thats awesome the blades are so sharp, I need to pick some up.

Point 3 was pretty funny

How are the blades in the old razor? I used the Gillettes this morning and they were sweet. They claim not as sharp as the Feathers, but dang close
