That sucks balls. I know a dude who was in the Air-Force for 3.5 years and about 6 months before he was discharged he went to the medic because his foot was fucked up and always hurting real bad. The medic told him it was blisters and gave him some gold-bond to put in his boots. A week later he went back to tell them it wasn't working and he was still in a good amount of pain. They gave him a prescription to vicodin and sent him on his way. A few days later he went again to the medic for his foot, they told him to stay off it for a week and see how it does. A week later he went back and told them it felt like his bones were soft and aching on the inside. They gave him medical discharge and sent him home. He went to the hospital for his foot and the Dr. referred him to UCSF where they found he has a rare form of bone cancer and it affected half of his left foot. They also said that the damage was a lot worse because of "negligent medical care" UCSF filed a suit against the Air-Force. The AF tried to just brush him off, but after over a year they finally gave him full medical benefits for life, and paid him what his salary would have been for the final 6 month of his enlistment. The guy ended up having half of his foot removed, then the cancer spread up to both his knees. They amputated both his legs at mid thigh, and gave him chemo and radiation therapy. The last I heard from him he was still cancer free 2 years after the half thigh amputation, but he said he still "feels" the pain from his foot.
