so we're discussing how people vote now.

one friend suggests we change it to a computer system that nominates people for congress based on educational subsets (like people with PhDs). WTF? that excludes like 99.8% of the population and HORRIBLY skews the social policy towards the left.

(this all came up because presidents dont have to follow the advice of advisers who have degrees over the president who only has a law degree)

then he doubled back and said that the computer system should select a representative congressional body (like .1%** people in congress have PhDs while 25%* dont have highschool diplomas). WTF!?
*its actually 17%, I just looked it up. I knew I was close.
**actually .9%, just looked that up too. again, close.

Then it was some argument for randomness being introduced. When you allow in randomness you skip the whole filtering process that the current political process creates. Currently, as citizens, we can discriminate by education, social value, successfulness, personality, etc. A computer cannot do that.

random rambling: We started talking about how it'd disenfranchise the voters (well, I did) and my friend said "people dont vote anyway." 2004 presidential election was around 60% of voter turn out. He urged that it was 30%.

I'm glad I can remember facts. My dad just talked to me about that on Sunday (re: arguing with people even Laughing)

uhm, I'm gonna stop now, not sure where this was going.
