and if you are doing a large area, you wind up getting it so hot that the piece you are working on warps

yeah it was a good start to learning to weld but you get stuff hot and start messing it up like your saying then its pointless to weld...

we went from oxy after 4 classes to TIG did TIG for 4 classes. then today we did all our MIG stuff in 1 day. Next class is Stick i belive.

stick is really an art, my boss at the garage I worked at was unbelievable. never stuck a rod, never flubbed a weld, and the man had to wear 2 pair of magnifying lenses to do it, I learned a lot from that old guy, a LOT more than I did from 4 years of welding class in HS

I learned to mig when I was probably 10 and do it quite frequently. I work for a sign company so I do a lot stick welding 20-30ft in the air so I have gotten pretty good at it. I do know how to oxy acetylene and have the torch tips to do it, but really have no use for it.

I agree with you homer, I mainly wanted the oxy acetylene outfit to cut with, I have some 7/16 plate I need to cut up to make new targets, maybe they wont curve like the 3/8 did
